New York, January 29, 2008 – SAJA, journalists from Asia Southern Association announced its list of directors for the year 2008 today. The group serves more than 1,000 journalists and other interested persons by South Asia and South Asians across the United States and Canada.
Sandeep Junnarkar, a professor of new media at New York University Graduate School of Journalism and one of the most experts on online journalism, has been elected president. VV Ganeshananthan, known as Sugi, a writer and author, was elected vice president. Anusha Shrivastava, a reporter for Dow Jones Newswires, who is new to the Commission, was appointed secretary (Covers corporate bonds and News Service has been a business journalist for cable, print and electronic media United States, Canada and India). John Laxmi, a freelance writer based in New Jersey, continues as treasurer and Sree Sreenivasan, professor of journalism at Columbia University and postpone WNBC-TV technology, continues the director general of the General Committee. Junnarkar (pronounced "Joo-Sun deep-kar-NAR), which is an associate professor at City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism, was born Gwalior, India. He spent his childhood in New Delhi, Mumbai, London, Paris and adolescents in certain parts of California and New York. He earned a Masters at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a BA from the University of California at Berkeley. He worked for the website of the New York Times in the 1990s and later became the head of the New York Office of CNET News.com. Ganeshananthan (pronounced "[Soo-Ghee not SOO-jee] gun-ay-Shan-a-like "), the first member of the Sri Lanka is an American journalist and writer SAJA. I grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. He graduated in 2002 from Harvard University, where he was editor of The Crimson. He earned a master's degree in fiction from the Iowa 2005. In 2005-2006, Phillips Exeter Academy, has been writer in residence. In 2007, he earned master's new School of Journalism of Columbia, where he specialized in the arts and cultural coverage. He has written and reported for the Atlantic Monthly, The Wall Street Journal, The American Prospect and other publications. Random House published his first novel, "Love Marriage" in April. Led by Ganeshananthan, SAJA (with his partner, SAJA Group, Inc.) is preparing for the annual conference to be held 20-21 June 2008, the University of Columbia and the School of Journalism at CUNY in New York. More than 1,000 journalists and guests from across the United States, Canada, Southeast Asia and Europe must answer a series of workshops, discussions and networking events – highlighted by a dinner and the SAJA Journalism Awards (which Daniel Pearl Award for outstanding reporting Southeast Asia). Increasing dramatic population of South Asia to the United States and the growing importance of the United States and South Asia has led to growth considerable coverage in the community and the region. As a result, SAJA serves as a resource for journalists, community organizations and members the public to try to understand the various complex issues related to the sub-continent.
Junnarkar, Ganeshananthan and other members of the Commission will focus on improving the quality and scope of programs Saja Saja reports, including scholarships, which provide funding for journalists interested in covering stories about South Asia or the diaspora.
