I gave the pop-ups a try for first time visitors.. my website is a polling site and also at the end of the poll(s) I ask for their e-mail if they wish to see the results as well as future polls. So far it’s working quite well.
Only getting a few people per day but they are reacting quite well… using those two tactics about 20% of my visitors sign up for the mailing list, most through the pop-up.
