How can I tell if a marketing company is a scam?
I have a telephone interview with a marketing company in a couple of days and I’m suspecting it may be a scam. Reasons:
- They requested a picture of me
- They have the American Marketing Association logo on their website but are not listed as a partner on the AMA website
- Their main telephone number goes to the voice mail of a man who doesn’t state his name, company, or any details about himself
- No names or contact information on the website, only a contact form
These raise red flags in my opinion, but then again I don’t have any experience with this type of situation. Can someone give me their opinion on whether it’s a scam or not, some other signs that could indicate a scam, or some questions I should ask during the interview to determine the truth?
Thanks!

It’s illegal for them to ask for a picture of you before you start working for them. And if they have an AMA logo but are not listed as a member on the actual AMA site, then it’s a fraud. I would report them to the AMA. In the meantime, do not send any information or do a phone interview until you have completely checked out this business. Call the AMA, if they don’t know this company then don’t have anything else to do with them
