Mailing List Cleaning Service

How long does a hospital have to bill you?
I am good about paying my bills on time and when my daughter was born 3 years ago we got swamped with bills. We paid all of the bills off within a year and worked out payment plans to keep our credit clean. Now out of the blue I got a bill today stating it was my final notice for a date of service of May 2007. I was seen at the hospital on the date listed but am pretty sure that I paid this bill along with all of the others. Even so, don’t I have rights? It should not take nearly three years to bill someone, and it isn’t stating that I’m in collections yet but that if I don’t pay it within the next 7 days I will be. We did move in November 2008 but that was still 18 mos past the date of service, and we did have our mail forwarded. I would like to think I have rights but then again maybe I don’t? Anyone with knowledge of fair billing act or medical billing please help me know my rights. Thank you.
They have 3 years, so they are well within their rights. You may have had your mail forwarded, but certain documents are not forwarded. Any legal documents with the UPC code on them are frequently not forwarded.
