Mailing List In Gmail
How do sites such as Facebook access your contact list and email everyone in it?
When you register with sites such as Facebook you can optionally supply them with your username and password for Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail and they will email everyone in your contacts list.
How do they do this and does anyone know of any articles that explain techniques etc.

when you sign into your email account on say hotmail you will see various options such as inbox outbox contacts and things like this, what your “client”( the program you use to check emails) will do is ask the server a question using a special command such as “Get_mail” for example your server will then send the mail to the client. the same can be done with your contacts. you see by giving your email and password to facebook you then allow them to use do this to your mail server and hit it with a command like “Get_contacts” for example.
