Birth control and surgery??
Ok so I asked this question a couple weeks ago but didn’t really get any answers that helped. I am having surgery on Dec 17th. Getting my tonsils out, adnoids out, and deviated septum fixed. I got a letter in the mail saying to stop taking certain medicines 2 weeks before the surgery cause it can thin out your blood which can cause it to clot easier during surgery. It mainly listed painkillers. It said to ask your physician before stopping any prescribed medications. Well, is birth control considered to be one of those medicines I need to stop?? It actually had a list of everything from alcohol to aspirin to midol. Things like that, plus certain vitamins. Anyone know the answer to this?? Thanks!!
Oh, and a few people have said to call and ask. Should I call the doctor that’s doing the surgery (an ear, nose, throat specialist) and ask or could I just call the physician that gave me the bc.
You can still take your birth control but you have to tell your doctor before the surgery so that they can give you different antibiotics so that your pill still works ok. I you wanted to double check then you can call either the doctor that’s doing the surgery or the physician I’m sure both would know.
