has anyone heard of this scam? check in the mail.?
I received a check in the mail today from J.B. Southern INC of 805 Ford Street in Milton ONT, in my name written out to me with no conditions for deposit written on the check, and none in the letter. The letter is saying that the check is to be used to pay for my bond in getting access to the $250 K prize that I’ve won in a contest that I haven’t entered.
The letter asks that I don’t deposit the check and instead call a Canadian number to find out about “how to collect the prize,” the check is drawn on a Wachovia account with the owner of the account J.B. Southern being listed as living in Orlando Florida at 18580 East Colonial Drive.
My question is what do you know about this? What are the contractual requirements that would be incurred from depositing the check? And who else has heard of received something like this recently?
This post is both a question and a warning….the whole thing stinks of bait-n-switch. What do you think?
They’ll send you a check for maybe $5,000 with instructions to deposit it and wire half the money back to their associates…..In 1 – 5 month your bank will discover the check was fraudulent and they’ll want all $5K back immediately or they’ll press charges against you.
